Professor Kelsey Hegarty
Professor Kelsey Hegarty is an academic general practitioner who holds the joint Chair in Family Violence Prevention at the University of Melbourne and the Royal Women's Hospital. She leads the Safer Families Centre (see saferfamilies.org.au) and is part of the executive of the Restore Centre of Research Excellence (see restore.org.au). Her research focuses on early interventions including educational and health interventions to improve identification and response to domestic, family and sexual violence. Interventions are delivered through health care and through the use of technologies. She has developed a measure of domestic violence the Coercive Composite Abuse Scale, a validated multidimensional measure of coercive control. She has developed an innovative domestic and family violence curriculum for health practitioners She provides regular expert advice to the World Health Organisation. She is also Director of the Postgraduate Primary Care Nursing Course.
